In Memory of Doris DeFaye Costello
1931-2017

Doris was dedicated to her Catholic faith and to the CWC. She was an important part of the parish and she will be sorely missed.

Fr. Bob Kawa

Doris was always the same: comfortable, cheerful and a good friend. She was a true disciple of St. James parish.

Sheila Olszewski

With Doris, what you saw was what you got. There were no pretenses. She was a friend to everybody.

Fr. Paul Walker

Doris was a wonderful person who was always giving of herself to the parish and to the CWC.

Joann Schol

It was my honor to minister to Doris during her last days. She remained faithful during her trials and was a great example to her family.

Fr. Tim Kozak

From Her Obituary

Doris DeFaye Costello, a gracious and selfless caretaker to both her patients and her loved ones, peacefully passed on February 19th in McConnelsville, OH. She had just turned 86.

Mrs. Costello, a daughter of Eva D. Doty and Irwin T. Doty, was born in Mahwah, NJ. She attended The Ohio State University, in 1949. Mrs. Costello played varsity basketball at Ohio State, receiving her varsity letter 1950-1952. She met William J. Costello, a cheerleader at Ohio State, her freshmen year, and they married in 1952. They raised six children together. Upon graduating from Ohio State in 1954, Mrs. Costello served as a Registered Nurse. She retired in 1987.

After living in Bexley, OH, for several years, Mrs. Costello and her husband built their dream home on a large, family-owned property in McConnelsville. The property had always been important to Mrs. Costello as it has been in the family since 1803. Mrs. Costello was very proud of her family’s history.

She was installed as a member of The First 100 Families in Ohio by the Ohio Genealogical Society. Mrs. Costello was the past president of the Catholic Women’s Club, a member of the Never Silent Club and the Mother’s Club, and a member of several bridge clubs in McConnelsville.

She is proceeded in death by William J. Costello (spouse); Kneeland M. Costello (son); Eva D. Doty (mother); Irwin T. Doty (father); Ruth Burns (sister); Thomas Doty, (brother); and Katherine E. Herman (granddaughter).

Her legacy lives on through her children, William T. Costello, Patrick J. Costello (Margaret), Diane M. Herman (Rick), Beth C. Erdy (Todd), Christopher J. Costello (Michele); her 11 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; special sisters-in-law, Beverly Doty, Gail Rymarczyk; brother-in-law, Bob Rymarczyk; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins; and many friends.
